I tested it out using a headphone cable with a phosphor bronze mini-XLR plug!
We have recently been asked to test a sample of the plug that we proposed to Neutrik.
This is a female plug for RT3FC-B mini XLR.
The sample we received this time has a plug contact made from phosphor bronze, which is different from regular products.
The only difference between the samples is the material of the pins, so they are indistinguishable from regular samples.
We created a test cable by replacing the plug of our popular AKG headphone cable, which uses Mogami 2893, with this sample and listened to it.

As an aside, the outer diameter of this cable is too large to fit onto the RT3FC-B.
We process some of the parts to make them easy to use.
I tried listening to them in my usual testing environment, and was surprised at how clearly the bass sound was different compared to regular products.
The overall volume also feels increased by one level, making for a good balance.
I couldn't believe my ears that the sound could change so much just by changing the material of the pins.
So I made a test version with a normal plug and compared the sound, but the results were the same and I was once again surprised at the difference.
Many ONKODO brand plugs use phosphor bronze in the contact area.
It costs money, but I realized it really does have an effect.
However, we couldn't deny the possibility that the sound differences might have been heard due to bias on the part of the person proposing the product, so we decided to have our own workers conduct a blind test.
As you can see, there is no difference in appearance, so I'll just identify the cables as A and B.
We also tested two types of headphones, the ones we normally use for shipping tests: the K240Studio re-cabled product and the standard K240Studio.
The re-cable was used by the production team for shipping tests, and has been in use for a long time so it has already been aged.
On the other hand, the normal item has been used very little and has not yet finished aging.
The test environment consisted of a 9.7-inch iPad connected to the K240Studio via a test cable.
◆Test details: Cable Mogami 2893 1m
・Stereo mini plug ONKODO AP3.5-303NG Phosphor bronze gold plated
・Mini XLR RT3FC-B or RT3FC-B Phosphor bronze sample product
・Solder used: KR-19RMA
・Sound source specifications: Test sound source from YouTube, individual favorite songs
The results of the blind test showed that all employees who participated preferred the sound of the phosphor bronze plugs.
In terms of content, it feels like the volume has increased a notch.
Although there were differences in how things sounded in this Tet environment, everyone was impressed, with increased resolution and better resonance in the high range.
It would be a bit rough to assert that the sound quality is better than that of regular products based solely on the results of this test, and in other environments it may even be unpleasant to the ears.
However, if you are not using a headphone amplifier as in this case, you will want as much output as possible, so this is a product that I would recommend for that combination.
I have already ordered this plug and it will take about 2 months to ship.
We won't be able to sell this product until the new year, but it's definitely a product we'd like you to try!
It seems that the final version will have a blue line on the rubber bushing.
We will also introduce some of the products currently under development.
This is a 3-pin XLR plug.
Both the male and female contact parts are made of phosphorus bronze.
Although costs will increase slightly as a result of this incident, we are confident that the sound quality will be worth the cost.
It is still in the prototype stage and will be some time before it is released, but we would like to introduce it to you again once the production sample is ready.
